Consulting & Literature Reviews

My services are customized to meet the specific needs of each client. I can attend symposia or research team meetings and distill the gathered information into reports, or perform reviews of the current literature in your field of interest.

I can edit all forms of scientific writing: manuscripts, technical reports, grant proposals, etc. I perform all levels of editing, including copy, substantive, stylistic, project and ghostwriting.

I can write original documents (papers, brochures) for publication, based on client-supplied protocols and data.

About Me

I have been a freelance academic writer and editor since 2001.

My editing projects have included academic manuscripts, grant proposals, Canadian provincial government agency reports, website content, patient brochures, literature reviews, and quarterly technical digests.

I am an avid volunteer: Mayo Clinic Arizona, and on the boards of the Los Diamantes HOA (VP & social committee) and DMHS International Baccalaureate Parents' Association (communications officer). I also am enthusiastic about fitness and hike regularly, as well as teach Zumba (licensed since 2017).

Please see my Curriculum Vitae for more information.

"Thank you very much.  I am very pleased with your work and think that the proposal has greatly improved.  It reads very well."

Dr. Ingeborg Zehbe, Lakehead University

"HBI Expert Advisory Committee Impressed During Visit
"The Hotchkiss Brain Institute Expert Advisory Committee (EAC) visit on November 2 went very smoothly....
A science writer, Sheila Hotta-Mitchell [sic], was in attendance throughout the meeting. She has been very effective in generating the first draft of a report that the advisors are now working on to finalize.  The visit was very well organized and coordinated and the EAC has asked Wee to express their deepest gratitude to Yvonne, Dan and Sheila for making their visit easy, comfortable and enjoyable.  We share the EAC's sentiments and thank these individuals profusely."

Excerpt from "Brainworks", Nov. 2006, vol. 2, issue 3, referring to a summary of an academic institutional site visit

"Thanks so much, Sheela--it looks lovely and captures all of what we spoke about over coffee."

Eileen Gresl, COPD & Asthma Network of Alberta

"The modules are excellent, and that is exactly what I want you to do."
